Steps to Request a DefermentÌý

1. Withdraw From Classes*
If you are enrolled in classes, you will have to withdraw from your classes before you canÌýsubmitÌýthe deferment request form. It is your responsibility to withdraw from classes. You must withdraw from all classes before the end of the refund period based on the session or term you are enrolled in, or you willÌýbe responsible forÌýall tuition charges.Ìý

Log in to yourÌýUAccessÌýStudent Center to drop your classes. If you withdraw after the refund deadline, you do not need toÌýsubmitÌýaÌýdeferment;Ìýyou will remain active and able to register for the next term. Any financial aid or scholarship disbursements must be returned.Ìý

2.ÌýSubmitÌýYour Deferment Request FormÌý
Log in to your , click on your application, and go to the "Defer Admission" tab to fill out andÌýsubmitÌýthe form.Ìý

When youÌýsubmitÌýyour deferment request form, you are also canceling your housing application, if applicable. You willÌýbe responsible forÌýany nonrefundable university charges you might have on your account. You can view yourÌýUAccess Student Center to see if you have any outstanding charges.Ìý

Conditions of Deferment Ìý
The deferment is not to exceedÌýfourÌýsemesters, based onÌýqualifying reasons.ÌýApprovedÌýdefermentsÌýinclude military service, religious commitments/faith-based mission,Ìýhealth/medicalÌýreasons, or visa issues (international students).Ìý
Students are not eligible to begin in a term not typically available to them by standard policy (i.e.,Ìýfirst-year students are eligible for fall term only).Ìý
If your original major is not available for your requested term, your majorÌýwillÌýbe updated to another major with a similar focus within your academic college.ÌýÌý
You may not attend another university before your enrollment. Your record will be reviewed through the National Clearinghouse to confirm that you were not enrolled at another university prior to your enrollment at the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.ÌýIf applicable, merit scholarshipsÌýfrom theÌýinitialÌýadmit term will be honored; attending another institution during deferment will result in cancelationÌýof merit scholarships.Ìý
Transfer students who enroll at another university andÌýareÌýoffered a merit scholarship will no longer be eligible for thatÌýscholarship;ÌýyourÌýmeritÌýscholarshipÌýwill beÌýcancelled.Ìý

How to Return to the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ After DefermentÌý
Please allow 3-4 weeks for your deferment request to be processed. Once your application has been deferred to your desired term, please watch for emails fromÌýAdmissions to sign up forÌýOrientation and complete any other necessary steps for enrollment in when that term becomes available.Ìý

When to Request a Deferment (International only)
Spring 2026
The deferment form for spring 2026 opens on October 23, 2025. The deadline to request a deferment for spring 2026 is January 21, 2026. Any requests that come after the deadline will not be considered.
Summer/Fall 2026
The deferment form for summer/fall 2026 opens on July 1, 2026. The deadline to request a deferment for summer/fall 2026 is August 31, 2026. Any requests that come after the deadline will not be considered.
Steps to Request a Deferment (International only)
1. Withdraw From Classes
If you are enrolled in classes, you will have to withdraw from your classes before you can submit the deferment request form. It is your responsibility to withdraw from classes. You must withdraw from all classes before the end of the refund period based on the session or term you are enrolled in, or you will be responsible for all tuition charges.
- Log in to your UAccess Student Center to drop your classes.

- If you are not enrolled in classes, complete step 2.
2. Submit Your Deferment Request Form
Log in to your Future Wildcat Account, click on your application, and go to the change of admission start term tab to fill out and submit the form.
When you submit your deferment request form, you are also canceling your housing application, if applicable. You will be responsible for any nonrefundable university charges you might have on your account. You can view your UAccess Student Center to see if you have any outstanding charges.

Conditions of Deferment
- The deferment is not to exceed five semesters, based on the qualifying reason outlined above.
- If your original major is not available for your requested term, your major will be updated to another major with a similar focus within your academic college.
- If you have been awarded a scholarship, you may not attend another university before your enrollment. Your record will be reviewed through the National Clearinghouse to confirm that you were not enrolled at another university prior to your enrollment at the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
- Transfer students who enroll at another university and were offered a merit tuition scholarship will no longer be eligible for that scholarship, your admission will be cancelled and you will have to reapply for admission and submit updated transcripts.
How to Return to the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ After Deferment

Once your application has been deferred to your desired term, please watch for emails from admissions to sign up for orientation and complete any other necessary steps for enrollment in Next Steps Center when that term becomes available.
